Eastern Therapy or Western Medicine?
At this stage it is important to understand the basic differences between Western and Eastern Medical Practices. The following is very much a generalisation and no comment is made on which system is better or preferable. Under most situations both approaches can be successful.
We usually know we are ill because we notice the symptoms referred to above. There may be just one symptom or a combination of lots of them. These are the initial clues to your Doctor or Therapist. Diagnosis may be simple or further tests on blood, urine or X-rays may be required.
The Western Doctor will then prescribe medication or recommend surgery and possibly suggest dietary and lifestyle changes. However, this treatment is treating the symptoms. Examples would be:
a) Paracetamol for a headache,
b) Anti-histamine spray for hay fever,
c) beta blockers to reduce high blood pressure
d) Surgery to

remove an ulcer or cyst
e) Laser treatment to improve vision, and so on.
An Eastern Therapist will use that same initial information to help find what actually caused the symptoms in the first place. They want to find out:
a) Why you have a headache,
b) why you have hay-fever,
c) what is causing your raised blood pressure
d) what imbalances have created the ulcer or cyst,
e) what has caused your vision to be impaired.
They understand that something has gone wrong with the fundamental maintenance system of your body to allow this damage to occur. The Eastern Practitioner will then treat the cause of the problem rather than the symptom.
Western Medicine uses complex chemicals to block the symptoms and surgery to remove the diseased cells. Eastern Medicine uses energy balancing and nutrients to assist the body to heal itself and prevent the problems from recurring.
